Wednesday, Jutr 23hd, 1884. (Before R. Ward, Esq., R.M.) Robinson v. Kobinson. This was a case where the Court at its last sittings ordered John Robinson to pay an amount for the maintenance of his daughter. John Robinson pleaded that he had received £7 16s since the order was made, but he had spent it in paying his debts and in drinking. The Magistrate said he was a heartless fellow who had no pity on his unfortunate daughter, and as he had wilfully disobeyed the order of the Court he sentenced Robinson to one month's imprisonment in the WanganuiGaol with hard, labor. W. Arnott r. A. Hennett.— Defendant did not appear. Seivice of the summons was proved by Constable Gillespie, and the case proceeded. Plaintiff deposed that he saw defendant on the 15th instant, when the language complained of was used. T. Wiclcham gave corroborative evidence. Defendant was fined 10s, and 9s cost. witU witnesses expenses Bs. Police v. W. Pnge, fpr wearing female apparel. Case dismissed, , LAHBIKINSIM. Poliee v. Turner. —Mr Staite appeared for the defendant. Foster and Print deposed that Turner had threatened an assault on some members of the Salvation Army on Sunday, the 6th instant. G. Kirton gave evidence to show that Turner, although present at the disturbance, was not taking an active part in it, and cleared off when requested to do so by witness. 'Ihonias Sexton, jun., deposed as to being present when the disturbance took place , did not see Turner taking any part in it. [Witness repeated a conversation between Turner and Print, but the evidence was not relevant.] Heard Mr Kirton advise Turner to go away, and saw him go, and Print with him. W. Page gave similar evidence; saw Turner simply jerk a piece of turf off ihe toad, and it happened to go towards Print. | Cross-examined : Witness added nothing importantHis Worship thought that although the defendant had been ably defended the" evidence was sufficient to convict him. £1 and costs. John Lines pleaded not guilty to a similar charge. Thomas Foster gave evidence of what he saw and heard. By defendant: Defendant insulted and threatened him. Thomas Sex: on, jun., was put into the box, but said he knew very little about W-. Print deposed as to defendant saying if witness hit Turner he would hit witness. His Worship thought there was not sufficient evidence to conviet defendant. He would dismiss the; charge with a caution that if he appeared again under similar circumstances he would be severely punished. He re-called Turner and warned him and defendant together to take care how they behaved themselves, and to keep out of such disturbances in future. j CIVIL CASES. ! O. R.
