North Island Trunk Railway
I [PKB UNITED PBEES ABBOCIATION] Auckland, This Day. In liis speech at Wangarei the Hon. E. Mitchelson said it would be useless to construct the North Island Trunk Railway, unless Mr Bryce's Native Land Bill was passed, as speculators would buy up all the land along it, probably for 2s or 5a an acre; whereas if that Bill was passed Government would buy up all the land on either side of the line would be met. whether it would be out of loiin money a or fall upon general taxation, he said that if the Native Land Bill passed and Government acquired land as above iudicated, it could be resold atter the railway was made at Li to L 5 an acre ; and such sales wonld realise a« Much as would construct two such lines.
