Football
The Feilding men were very unfortunate in the first match this season, which was played at Palmerston on Saturday. Owing, no donbt, to the wretched weather, three men were short, and two Palmerstonians only played as substitutes. The Feilding captain elected to play a man short, hoping for the arrival of Alf Smith, from Sanson. Two spells of 30 minutes eacb were played. Thompson took the eastern goal. Stallard kicked off for Palmerston. The ManaI watu Daily Times says -.—Palmerston won the match by six points to nothing. For the local team the play of the forwards was steady and effective, Stallard, W. Moffat, and H. Sheerin being most noticeable. F. Smith, Salmon, and Temlar played well as backs. Templar's runing being particularly good. For Feilding Thompson played a grand game, doing three or four men's work, and was well supported by the other backs, Harry Halcombe being particularly active as quarter- back. Amongst their forwards, Say well, who played as a substitute, was undoubtedly the best man tbey had, though all played a plucky game. Mr Caverhill umpired for Feilding and Mr Pratt for Palmerston. The date for the return match has not yet been fixed.
