UNKNWON.

— — ♦ Oub northern contemporary the Auckland Star at one time suggested the formation of a Coalition Ministry, Atkinson cum Gbby. This is not likely to eventuate in the form desired by the Star, but it appears that Sir Ghobgb has made up his mind to keep the present Ministry in power. In one of his addresses made during his southern tour, the "wily knight " declared that he would hot be a follower of any man, bnt, like Will-o'-THB-WTirn, he would "fight for his own hand." Although he did not declare his intention to attempt the leadership of the Opposition, yet it was clear that he had no idea of accepting any subordinate position in the House. . One cannot help admiring the consummate skill and cunning displayed in putting up MrSrBWABT, the member for Waimate, as the mover of a vote of want of confidence in the Ministry. Sir Gbobob Gbby knew perfectly well what would happen when his "lady-like and namby pamby" worshipper and follower took such a responsibility on him. He baited hit trap well, and Major Atkinson was caught nicely. This gentlemen declined to accept such a challenge unless from a recognised leader in the House, and poor Mr Stbwabt had to subside. This was the opportunity Sir Gbobob had made for himself, and he grasped it with .all- {promptitude. Major Atkinson as eagerly accepted Sir Gkoboe as leader of the Opposition, for he knows that the country is a thbuiand times better satisfied with the ArkiNsoN Government than ever it could be with Sir Gbobob Gbby at the head of affairs. [Since the above was in type a division has taken place in the House, and the Government defeated by a majority of nine vetes.]^^^^^^^^^.
