THUESDAY, JUNE 12, 1884. Personal
To-day is the second anniversary of the publication of tlie Feilding Stab, and we have pleasure in thanking the public ot Feilding for the liberal support they have afforded us during the whole period. We have been enabled to add largely to the plant necessary to meet the continued and increasing demand for all kinds of printing work. Although during the past twelve months business on all sides of Feilding has been dull, yet we have pleasure in stating that we have suffered no diminution in our receipts, but, on the contrary, a most gratifying expansion has taken place. We take it that this is a fair criterion of the general experience of business people in the Borongh. Although there has been no apparent rush ol trade, yet what has been done has been on a good basis, and the money returns have been certain. The careful and discriminating manner in which the first instalment of the Borough Loan has been laid ont in the improvement of the town has been a considerable factor in maintaining a good average cash circulation. The steady influx of new settlers, who have commenced vigorously to clear and farm tbe lands of the Kiwi, tea and adjacent blocks, and who have spent, and are now spending, large sums in felling the bush, has made a marked improvement in the condition of affairs during the twelve months which have passed. The only regret we have is that our efforts to obtain the exploration of the Oroua Valley for the central railway ronte have taken so long to bear fruit. We have no " sin of omission " to accuse ourselves of on this subject. We have fearlessly pressed on the Government the claims of the route for .-..• .-.rtion. Our persistanc le* ■ midr-spd roifr, wiiu io_. We hope by consistency, and the courage which is given by a knowledge that at all times and under all circumstances, onr whole aim and object is to advance and promote the welfare of the district and the people with whom our lot is cast, to deserve and receive that share of public snpport which has been so willingly and libera" in the past.
