Sir Charles Gavan Duffy has announced his intention of issuing a series of " Nationalist " pamphlets, advocating the creation of an Irish Parliament. The prospectus of the new Oriental Bank bas been issued. The capitai of the institution will be two millions sterling. The race for the Oaks Stakes was run at Epsom to-day and resulted as follows : Busybody 1, Superba 2, Queen Adelaide 3. Pabis, May 28. Despatches have been received from Admiral Miot, commanding the French squadron in Malagasy waters, announcing that he has broken off the parleying which for some time past has been proceeding with a view to the settlement of affairs, and in consequence of the unyielding nature of the natives, has established a blockade of the whole coast of Madagascar. London, May 29. The death is announced to-day of Sir Henry Bartle Frere, baronet, the wellknown ex-colonial Governor, aged 69. Telegrams are to hand from Gibralter stating that Lieutenant • General De Nachtigal, of the German array, is now at that port, and about to proceed in the German gunboat to formally occupy the territory at Augra Pequina, on the west coast of Africa, which for sometime past has been a Germtiu settlement, and regarding which diplomatic . negotiations passed between the British and German Governments owing to a dispute which occurred in October last between a firm of German merchants, at the settlement, and the Captainjof a British schooner, over a question of payment- of Customs dues. The Bill for amending the purchasing clauses with reference to landed property in Ireland has passed its first reading iv the House of Commons. Bishop Abraham, canon of Lichfield, will probably be appointed provost at Eton College. Caieo, May 28. Statements have reached here to the effect that a new Malidi has appeared in Ac Darfur country. He has, it is said, secured the allegiance of several tribes, and fought a pitched battle with the followers of Mohammed Ahmer, the reputed Mahdi, in which the latter were defeated with heavy loss. . . ;
