— — • (Before K. Ward, Esq., R.M.) Wednesday, April 23rd. civil CASES. J. P. Pybus v R. T. Davies—Judgment summons for £7 125. Mr Sandilands for plaintiff. No appearance of defendant. To be paid forthwith or 8 days' imprisonment J. Wright v G. Hayward — Judgment summons for £13 19s. No appearance of defendant. To be paid forthwith or 14 days' imprisonment. F. Bryce v D. Glacken— Claim £3 13s 6d. Mi Sandilands for plaintiff. Defendant pleaded non- indebtedness. J. Laing was called to prove that some meat had been snppiied to defendant by plaintiff. Defendant explained that the^. alleged claim arose but bf -a c v*rbal contract between the two parties,' 'and contended that plaintiff had ncr right to sue, as he had not a slaughtering license. His Worship referred to the Act, and ruled that it did not apply to-- the ease, andthought tbat defendant had destroyed hia . right of defence by his own action in the * matter. Ultimately the cause was adjourned till next Court day for the appearance of plaintiff, the sum of £1 to be allowed as expenses to defendant* A number of other eases were settled out of Court, which then adjourned.
