* *♦ SOO REFUGEES SLAUGHTERED (BKUTKe's TEtEOBAMS) Uaibo, April 20. Intelligence bas reached here showing that the hostility of the Arab tribes in the neighbourhood of Berber is in no way diminished. An attempt was recently -made by 300 of the refugees from Shendy fto reach Berber by sailing down the Nile, but the boats were attacked, and all the refugees were massacred. General Gordon proposes, in view of ths inaction which is being displayed by the British Government in the matter, that an appeal , .ahould be^at once made to wealthy .-Englishmen and Ameieaas to contribute V: towards stfund for defraying the expenses of a body of Turkish troops whose service* should be engaged to cover the retreat of tiie Egyptiaa garrison at -Khartoum and other fortified towns ir. the Soudan.
