Accident to the Takapuna

[per unites press association ] Wellington, This Day. Tbe s.s. Takapuna, on being docked at Port Chalmers, was found to have her botton damaged. It has leaked out that the damage was caused by the vessel striking on an outlying ledge of the Opunake Reef, which she must have passed right over. The great speed at which she was travelling took her right over with a sort of jump, and her double bottom ure yen ted any material leakage subsequently. It seems pretty certain that if she had had only a single bottom she probably would nave gone down directly after getting over the reef.
