Bulls Items

fFsosi ova OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Bulls, March 17. The Harmonic Society were fortunate in having a beau:iful evening for their second concert of the season This would account for the very large alten-i---ance of visitors and the general public, attracted no doubt by the exception 1 pood programme presented. As .1 prirae societ3% it is not decun-d proper to individualize the members who took the leading parts, consequently to those who were not present, or who were not conversant with those to whom the several parts were allotted, a ciitieism would haturaily lack any great interest. ''Farmer's Mass," as mentioned in my last, was the fids! part, and was a great success from first to last, the " ' utti" parts being almost perfect. The two ladies who took tbe solos are to be congratulated on their very jierfect and beautiful rendering of tbe fluid but beautiful passages, and also for the perfect leads throughout the evening. The other solos do not call for any especial remark. Each one did his or her utmost to make the whole a success. The second part was very enjoyable, but T must express ray strong objee tion to so many encores. The conductor should not allow aa encore unless tbe song or solo is of exceptional excellence, and the only piece that was worthy of an encore itf the' second part Was Herr Norberg and Miss Norberg, in their piece "The Daughter of the Begimeut." Such a masterpiece of execution bas seldom been heard here before. In the solo part tbe comique song " The Frenchman" was very cleverly acted, and caused roars of laughter. Tbe concert closed witb tbe National Anthem a€ a Quarter to eleven. ' Last evening St. Andrew's Church was crowded to hear Mr Dodwell, who preached a grand sermon from the 11th chapter ; St. John; '35th verse, and kept his hearers spell bound for 35 minutes. Many expressed regret that he brought his discourse toa close to soon.;. Sergt Heldreth, of Salvation renown, has returned for a few days, prior to opening a campaign at Palmerston or Foxton.
