One Auckland passenger named Thompson died on Saturday and was buried at sea. Melbottbne, March 10. Owing to the extreme wet weather, the unfinished cricket match between the Australian Eleven and the Victorian team has been abandoned. Melboubnb. March 8. The last day's races of the Victoria Racing Club's Autumn meeting came off to-day on the Fleciington course. The Champion Stakes of 3 miles resulted as follows :— Le Grand, 1 ; Off-Colour, 2 ; Commotion, 3. Sting was fourth, Navigator fifth, Martini-Henri sixth, and Ironhand seventh. The win was a popular one. The betting at the post was 2 to 1 on Martini, und 8 to 1 against Le Grand. The official time is given at omin 26_{secs. Mnr-h 10. A mining manager named Kleicher has been arrested at Sandhurst, charged with embezzlement. News has been received by the Chimborazo from London that Messrs Shaw, Shrewsbury, and Lillywhite are oigan izing a team of professionl cricketers to visit Australia and iNew Zealand next season.
