♦■ bevteb's telegrams. Kecieved March 8, 0.45 a.m. Melbourne, March 7. The cricket match between the Australian team and fifteen of Victoria, commenced here to-day. 'I he home team went in first, and at the close of the day's play had lost seven wickets tor 171. Horan was the highest scorer with 83. .Not much interest is being taken in the match, and the attendance of visitors today is very small. It is now stated to be probable that Spofforth will, after all. proceed to England with the Australian team. Melbourne, March 6. At the second day of the V.R.C.'s autum meeting to-day, the race for the Australian Cup, of 2\ miles, resulted as follows : — Morpeth, 1 ; Sweet William 2 ; Le Grand, 3. Seventeen horses started, an i after a grand race, Morpeth won easily by two lengths. Time 4m. Arrived this morning— Union steamship Manapouri, from the Bluff. The cricket match between the Australian eleven and fifteen of Victoria will be commenced here to-morrow. Sydney. March 7. In the Legislative Assembly last night, the estimates came up for consideration, and the House sat in Committee of Supply until daylight this morning. Good progress was made, and a large number of votes were passed.
