Farther details <are to band from Souakim regarding the defeat of Baker Pasha's force by tbe : Arabr show that the Egyptian troops, of which hit force largely consisted, prored utterly; untrustworthy, and when called upon to adrance against the enemy they refused to fight and fled ignom'iniously. > The Enropeans and Turkish detachments stood their ground, but were out numbered, and cut to pieces. Much alarm was felt at Souakim at the success of the followers of El Mahdi and a force of marines was landed from the British war Teasels lying off the town in order to prevent a panic occurring among the inhabitants. The defeat of Baker Pasha's troops rendered the relief of the Beliagined garrisons at Sinkar and Tokar 'hopeless.
