Special to " Star." BEUTEE'S TELEGBAMS. London, January 28. The wool market is steadier. New arrivals to date for next auctions amount to 160,000 bales. | The Oiient steamship Cuzco, from Melbourne (December 14), arrived at Plymouth to day, with a cargo of 4,000 carcasses of frozen mutton. Arrived— Ship Dunedin, from Port Chalmers (October 26), with a cargo comprising 8,500 carcases frozen mutton. A serious catastrophe occurred on the river Mersey, resulting in the wreck of the steamer Juno, and the loss of io lives. It is expected that an additional sum of £400,000 in gold will shortly be withdrawn from the Bank of England for Australia.
Received January 31, 1 a.m. London, January 30. The statement that the disabled ship Simla was being safely towed in to Gravesend has proved to be erroneous. At a banquet given last evening by the London Chamber of Commerce, at which the Colonial Agents-General were present, in responding to the toast of the Colonies, Sir Arthur Blyth, Agent-General for South Australia, said that he rejoiced at the increasing interest in the Colonies which was now displayed throughout the mother country, and he emphatically affirmed the unwavering loyalty of the colonists to the Imperial authority.
