It i» currently rumoured here th'it the Egyptain Government have almost decided to retain Klitirtoum on account of great difficulties which have arisen in connection with the proposed evacuation of the town by Egyptian troops. The matter is understood to be still under the consideration of the Cabinet, but it is expected that a decision will very shortly be arrived at. Intelligence is to hand from Khartoum that the tribes inhabiting the districts of the White and BlueNiles, in the extreim? south of Soudan, have openly declared their allegiance to El Mahdi, and are joining his ranks in large numbers daily.
Eeceived January 17, 1 a.m. Caiso, January 15. The Colonel of the Egyptian army has started for Turkey with authority to enlist a thousand Albanians for service in Egypt. Baker Pasha, commanding the Egyptian troops in the Soudan, meditates transferring his base of operations from Sooakinto Masowah off the northern coast of Abysinnia. and has already obtained the sanction and assurances of friendship from the Abysinnians. London, January 16. In the course of a speech at Newcastle last night, the Right Hon Joseph Chamberlain alluded to the occupation of Egypt by a British force, and stated that the withdraw! of the troops had only been delayed by the revolt in Souakim, and that the Government still adhered to the proposed eventual evacuation of Egypt as previously announced. 1
