♦ ■ _ . • At the nomination *held. yesterday to fill the vacancy in the Borough Council causfid by the election pf Cr. Sherwill to the Mayoralty, Mr W. Carthew was nominated by Mr Loud on, seconded by Mr Bray. There being no other nomination, Mr Hill, the Returning Officer de» clared Mr Carthew duly elected. Mr Carthew, briefly returned thanks to those present, and through them to the burgesses generally for electing him, and this closed the proceedings. We eongratu- ; late the new Councillor, and commend the burgesses for having chosen £gentleman whose election will be apngqs/ed of by all parties, and who we feel awewill discharge his duties in such a manner as will give general satisfaction. The Council is again complete, and with the certainty bow of the money for carry* ing on the public works being at once available, there is every reasonable*pro» pect for the prosperity of the Borough.
