Destructive Fire at Auckland

[MB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, This Day. A destructive fire happened m Upper Symonds street at 1 o'clock yesterday morning. Eight houses were destroyed before, .the fire was arrested, as the block, was on a level a little below the Kyber i'ass reservoir, and a good pressure of water could not be obtained. It began at Fotheringham's, the saddler's and also took the premises of Ryan, hairdresser; Young, plumber; Holloway, chemist; Derry, bootmaker ; Holliday. fruiterer ; and the dwellings of Messrs Lee, Jjugh, i Harris, Cavanagh, and Mis Plumridge. The total damage exceeds LSOOO. The insurances are:— South British, LI2OO, loss LIOOO, part reinsured ; Victorian, L 700; Imperial, L 600; New Zealand, L 212, loss £500; North British, L 20 0; Norwich Union, L2OO, loss LSO; Standard, L 150: Phoenix, LIOO.
