Severe Thunderstorms
Yesterday morning about 11 a.m. a heavy thunderstorm burst orer Feilding. Heary tropical showers of rain accompanied it with a steady downpour that soon filled all tbe water channels of the Borough. The atmosphere was excessively heary and oppressive, and caused people generally to feel very unwell. In the afternoon another severe thunderstorm broke over the town and district, and lasted tor about an. hour and a half. The rain came down in torreotg, the lightning was remarkably vivid, while the thunder was louder than many of the oldest inhabitants remember to have heard, resembling at times the discharge of volleys of artillery, and producing among some persons con Bid em bio alarm. We have not beard of any damage hay« ing been done.
(PEB UNITED PKEBB ASSOCIATION.) DrNBDfN, This Day. A yery terete thunder and hailstorm occurred at Tapunui, about on* hundred miles from Dunedin, inTuapeka country, this afternoon. The hail lasted half an hour, and the hailstones were like bird's egKS. The main street of the town was Hko a river, and the school childrea had to be carried across. An immense amount of damage was done to gardens' •nd growing crops.
