The following report of the Borough Engineer was read: — In compliance with a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Council, I have the honor to report re tbe box drain in Manchester street. I find tbat since Messrs Thompson and hutherford have filled iv the bed of the water-course through their premises, they have obj tamed a fall of about 9 inches into the i culvert, there being an equal amount I between the culvert and the point where | their properties intersect it and the flood level nf tiie Makino. An increased fall can be obtained by lowering the culvert and lessening the present grade. I would suggest that the culvert be lowered from Mr Thompson's cross fence to the Makino, 1_ inches or 15 inches at tbe former point, and 6 inches at the latter. This would always give drainage to sections affected, even when the culvert is nearly full. — I have, &c, Geo. C. Hill, C.E.
