Home Missionary Meetings
A« previously intimated the annual meeting in connection with the Primitive Met&odist Home Missions in New Zea land district was held in the Feilding church, Manchester street, an Tuesday evening last. The atteadaace was oaly moderate, probably owing the nnfavourable weather that had prevailed through the day. After Biaging aati prayer, the Her J. Clover gave * brief hist«ry of the church's existemee aid progress in this colony. About 40 years ago the fiev R. Ward landed in Taranaki and successfully established a camse there. Auckland and Wellington, were subsequently missioned with good results. During these last 12 years, twelve other stations Jiave been formed, four of which only are dependent on the nmson fund. The money raised by the children's cards and the collection at the meeting woalci go to supplement the B*m voted by the British ("onterenee to carry on the wark in these mission statistic. The statistics of the denomination in this colony were also given, and references were made to the missions in Africa. The Eev Mr Kcllow gave an earnest address on Home Mission work, in which he nrged upon th« audience the importance of aiding the work, both by direct and indirect means, as all could assist in some way or ether. Every one should be willing to do so out of gratitude to tho Saviour, who had diod for them. The Eev Mr Murray followed -with an address on the propriety and importance of all Protestant Christians co-operating in Home Mission work — a work alike dear to them all. He advoca- j ted a generous support of this work. It ; was surprising how little was giTen t® this cause, »r to God's cause generally, compared with what men spent on luxuries, er pensive habits, or come favorite ** hobby." Thit was inconsistent with Christian principle aad practice. SuitAble hymn? from the church hymn book were sung at intervals under the leadership of Mr C Lucas. The total amount realized by the children's cards and collection at the meeting was £6 ss.
