Charity and its Reward.
Some months ago Queen Margherita of Italy usked a half girl to kuit her a a pair of silk stocking as a birthday gift, and pave her 20 lire to buy the material. The Queen forgot the circumstances till her birthday came, when she was remindfd of it bj tbe arrival of a pair of well-knit stockings and the maker's best wishes. Not to be outdone Queen Mar^herita sent a pair to her youni; friend ns a return gift, one stocking beinu tull of lira- piecs, the other of bonbons They wore accompanied by a iittlc noto : '" Tell me, my dear, which you likeliest ?" A reply readied the palace next diiy : 'Dearest queen,— Both the stocking have made me shed many bitters tears. Papa took the one wiih the money, and my brother the other."
