Cheese and Butter Factory Company.
The meeting of shareholders held at Roe's Denbigh Hotel Sample Rooms last night was well attended, and although the interest displayed in the early part of the proceedings was somewhat flagging, after a little time some symptoms of enthusiasm appeared, and more real business was done than at any previous meeting. Mr Sherwill presided and read the report of the provisional directors, in which they tendered their resignations, with the account of their stewardship. The report was not adopted, but the following resolution was passed almost unanimously. It was proposed by Mr A. Dawsou, and seconded by Mrß. Loudon, That the provisional directors , be asked to withdraw their resignation; and that . the public be invited to subscribe to the expense {of canvassers to see all. those that have promised to become shareholders and asoertain if deposits on 1000 shares can be obtained. Mr Cottrell proposed and Mr Hall seconded that Mr Amesbury be appointed a canvasser. Carried. Mr Bartholmew proposed and Mr Bryce seconded that Mr Corpe he a canvasser. Carried. The shareholders have secured, in these gentleman, the services of persons that will ensure success. Subscriptions were raised in--; the room to nay the expenses of, ' the canvassers, amounting to L 9. The chairman informed the contributors that this money would be refunded immediately after the registration of the company. The chairman said, in his introductory remarks, that the names of -all shareholders who resided beyond a radius of four miles from Feilding, had been omitted from the list of subscribers, as Mr Bowron had .said that milk should not be carried for more than that distance. This.wouid not interfere with farmers becoming shareholders, no matter how far from the factory they lived, ■ but it was only fair that every consideration should he extended to those who might have misunderstood the capacity of the company to collect milk at long distances: At the close of the publio meeting a meeting of directors was held. The amount of cash for deposits and calls collected was L 25. We were glad to observe the decided determination of shareholders to carry out the factory scheme to a successful termination. Even the most faint-hearted have now become embued with confidence. .
