GALLANT ATTEMPT AT LESCUE. (PBB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.) Chbistchubch. This Day. On Sunday afternoon Thomas < orkhill, an old sailor, insisted on having a dip in the sea near Kyle. There was a moderately heavy sea on at the time, and Corkhill was soon in trouble. His mate, MePherson bravely plunged in to try to save him, but Corkhill threatened . to drown him if he came near, and I MePherson -had to struggle back to shore. In making a second attempt to save the life of his mate he became so exhausted in the heavy breakers that he was only rescued with great difficulty from drowning by a third person who was present. Corkhill, thui left to hitfate, disappeared, and his body was washed up on the beach yesterday.
