[PEB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland. Oct. 3. A fire broke out at 2 o'clock this morning in the centre of a block of five wooden shops in Wyndham street. Jacobs, his wife, and two children, who slept in the upper storey, narrowly escaped. , A neighbor procured a ladder and rescued one of the children by a window. Mrs Jacobs, in her excitement, got out at the window and fell to the ground, but escaped unhurt. Mr Jacobs and the other child escaped by clambering into the window of an adjoining shop. Auckland. This Day. The fire was confined to the block in which it originated. Mrs Ryan was insured for £100 in National. The house ! occupied by Mrs Snell was damaged but not greatly. Insured in New Zealand! for £500.
