Bulls Items.

■» (FBOM OCS OWN COKBESFON'DSITT.) Bulls, Sept. 14. It has often been a matter of wonderment to me why Turakina, Marton, Feeding, and Palmerston should have two maila daily to and from Wanganui, and yet we have to be contented with one. I am sure our correspondence warrants the extra labor as much as any of the above-named towns, and I think a little judicious agitation on the part of our local authorities wou'd obtain a like boon ' I do not think our courteous local postmaster. Mr Nicholas, would offer any objection, and that it would be a great convenience to the business people I am quite convinced. Our cricketers are on the war path. The Senior Club held their annual meeting on Saturday, the Bth inst., when the usual routine work of electing officers was gone through, with the satisfactory result of the appointment of all the old members. New blood is not yet needed in this very conservative clique. The Junior Club has not yet held their meeting, and it behoves their committee to be shaking off their " winter sleep." They will start this year under most favorable circumstances, as they have a good supply of bats and wickets, and, I hear, have arranged for ft practise ground near Dr Froods. 1 think it is to be regretted that the Senior Club have decided to play .their matches so far out of town it will lessen considerably the little local interest ia the ia*t(ib£3. But after ..all -it .does aoi

much matter, for while outsiders are to be invited to play in all the matches, to the exclusion of local members, real local interest cun never be felt in the club. Our aquatic people are beginning " to gird on their armour" le swimming pants, but the awfully cold winds which have beeujjblowing for so long have checked even the most enthusiastic " swimmists." Our river at present is delightful for a long swim, being a deep blue, and most inviting for headers. Mr Remington was unanimously elected Chairman of the Local Town Board at the first meeting of the new Board, and the members are now fairly in harness, A considerable number of grates are in arrears, and the Board has given a month's notice to defaulting ratepayers, after which time legal proceedings will be taken. Tenders have at last been called for fitting up the Court "House. The new fence is completed, and outwards the, appearance of the whole is good. The contraetorsiare now at work moving the old hospital Jbuilding up bo its new site in front of the^Clifton Hotel. When completed, the Masonic fraternity contemplate celebrating the .occasion by a grand ball. ______
