EARTHQUAKE IN NEW SOUTH WALES. NEWSPAPER LIBEL ACTIONS. PUBLIC DEMONSTRATION. BE-TER'B TEIjEGBAMS. Received Sept. 13, 0.55 a.m.! Sy_>-f*T. September 12. Another severe shock of earthquake was experienced last night in the south of this Colony. The shock was feit most distinctly in the city of Goulbourn. A crowded and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Town Hall of this city this evening for the purpose of considering the recent actions for libel and contempt of court, in which the proprietors of the Sydney Morning Herald were condemned to pay heavy damages. Resolutions, requesting the Legislature to ■Bmend the existing laws of libel and contempt of court, were carried. MiLßor/BNE, September 12. The following is the latest betting on the Melbourne Cup and V.B.C. Derby: —Cup— Despot, 100 to 8 ; First Demon, 100 to 7 ; Le Grand, luO to 6 ; First Water, 100 to 5. Derby— Archie, 2 to 1 ; Off Colour 4 to 1.
