Tire in Falmerston.
On Saturday night last the premises in th« rear of .Mr Collins butcher shop, on JLaagitikei street, were discovered to be on fire. Mr Collins promptly gave the alarm and the members of the Fire Brigade were quickly on the spot. There was a plentiful supply of water at hand, and Mr Ferguson's engine was quickly at work which did such good service that the fire was extinguished principally by its use. The bucket brigade also did good service. As the scene of the fire was in close proximity to West's buildings, and the Clarendon and Koyal Hotels, it is fortunate that it was discovered so soon, or the results would have been very serious. Tiie Manawatu Daily Times remarks that amongst those who assisted there was an entire lack of organisation, the brigade not having got into working order, but among those who volunteered and worked the hardest were the members of the brigade. Special mention is made of Messrs Bently, Stratford, Pringle, "Wood, Graff, Hanna, Pyvis, Partridge, Peterson, Johnston, Kerslake, Tingey xnd Schroder. The burned building w&s uninsured.
