Mr W. J. Jackson, the late chairnan of the Wellington Harbor Board, vriting from" London to a friend in Wellington, sends tho following in.erestinp- and important information •elative to rholtttest improvements in •egard tbrthe meat freezing apparatus: — ." 1 saw Mr i^arkworthy, who told uethV-' a firm at Birmingham had latented an improveaient iti the maihiriery forrefrig-erating purposes, so ;hat' s itcari "be worked ;fqr less- than ine-half the cost of that on the old jrihciple.'" The new machinery will ;ake only half the room, and use about lalfthe quantity of and have power iuough to fre'ize a double quantity of nutton or beef. Consequently, the charges for freightwill be considerably •educed, ' An order has' been given to supply new machinery to one of tbe New Shipping Company's vessels, and it is expected that it will ie fixed in two months' time. This should he interesting news to the iolonv at large, and prove ot great >enefit to i^ew Zealand.
