Tragedy in Southland.

+. [PBB triTITBD PBEBS ASSOCIATION. J Invkkcabgill. Tins Day. On Saturday two children named Kidd found a strange looking bundle in a water hole at the end of a box-culvert. The bundle consisted of the body of a male child, wrapped up in a Dunedin paper and an old rag. The children informed the father, and he telegraphed to the police in Invercargill. Detective Ede proceeded to the spot. It was found that the child was fully develop d, and had probably lived for a day or two. The skull was fearfully smashed, one portion of it being entirely broken off. The body also bore marks of violence, and had the appearance of being wilfully inflicted.
