_ ■ HOUSE OF BEPRESENTATIVES. (pbb ririTßP pbhss absociltiow.) Wellington This day. The Land Acts Amendment Bill was considered in committee last night. In clause 10 and 12 amendments to prevent the indiscriminate destruction of timber were made, and caused a lot of discussion, Grey proposing to lease by ballot at the upset price, but this wan negatived by 37 to 30, and a further amendment in favor of auction also failed. On clause 13 Larnach tried to get residence of th« overseer or manager substituted for compulsory residence by the lessee, but was negatived by 32 to 23. The proviso of clause allowing residence within 20 miles in certain cases was struck out by 30 to 24. Clauses up to 30 were passed with slight amendments, and the House rose at 1.5.
