Oroua and Manawatu County Conference.

The special meeting of the Manawatu County Council and the committee of the Oroua County Council, appointed to confer for the adjustment of accounts as between the two counties was held at the Mnnawatu County Council Chambers, Foxton, yesterday. Present— Manawatu * Crs, Tliynne ( Chairman), McKenzie, McLennau, Hadfield, Rockstrow, and Daris. Oroua Crs, Macarthur (Chairman). Skernian, Linton, Douglas, and Walker The accounts of the Manawatu Coun y werejread over by Cr Thynne and those of the Oroua County by Cr Macarthur. * The suggestions which had been proposed by the two Chairman together were brought before the meeting, and these formed the basis of a diaft report, which was prepared by Cr Macarthur, after various other suggestions had been made by the ( ra of either side. The following report was then read to the meeting, and it was unanimously agreed to by the Oroua Committee, and confirmed by the Manawatu Council on its pft't. "Your committee beg to make the following recommendations:— 1. That all applications for grants for works within the Oroua County, made by the Manawatu County Council, be transferred to the Oroua i 'ounty Council, and and that the Orona County Council, with the consent of the Government, issue the debentures for the same, ihd deal with the whole matter, as if the applications had been maie by that Council in the first place. 2. That all contracts and liabilities before 30th June, 1883, and engagements made or incurred by tne Manawatu County Council for works withm the Oroua County, become contracts, engagements, and liabilities of the Oroua County Council. 3. That aR reserves within the Oroua County become reserve* of th»t county. 4. That each county council take over its own ferry leases with the engagement* anditproperty appertaining thereto, the Oroua County Council taking the Gorge/ Ferry, and the M anawatu County Council the Foxton and other ferries in the. Manawaiu County. 5. That the Orona Coun ty take orer the Engineer for the north, Mr Bray,«nd pay him any moneys doe to him for salary since July Ist, 1883. 6. That all plans, estimates and specifications, whether under the I toads .and Bridges Construction Act or otherwise, ■ and of works within the Oroua County, be 'handed over to the Oroua County Council. 7- That the Manawatu County take the offices, furniture, and other assets connected therewith, costing in all *725, at £600, paying the share of such £600 > contributed, viz., £357 17« 7d, by the ridings now constituting the Oroua County, and that the Oroua County take,. OTer the grairel reserre at Paltnerston, allowing (he Manawatu County £250— the share contributed to the purchase thereof by tite southern county. 8. Tii at the Oroua County take over £1,290 10s 7d of the exisiin* overdraft. the Manawntu County taking the re* mainder, subject to the approval of the - ■ Bank of Australia. . v 9. That the tools used by the roadmen in the various ridings belong to the 1 county in which they now lie. 10. That the Oroua County take over the control of the Awaburi and Oroua Bridges, and that application be made by the councils to the Hon. the Minister for Public Workt to vest the control in the Oroua County Council. 11. That the riding books and valualion rolls belonging to the old ridings — Taonui, Manchester and Kiwi tea — now constituting the Northern County be hauded OTer to the Oroua Council. 12. That an agreement he drawn up* embodying the above conditions, which, after ratification by the two councils shall be considered as final between thi> two counties, each county paying on* half of the costs, if any, attending such transfer and certificate." The whole proceedings were of a most pleasant and amicable- nature, and ended iß.mu.taat congratulations, tbe two chairmen especially exchanging complimentary thanks for the assistance mutually rendered.
