The plaj itself throu^liout the gauiev.was fairly even, but the OroVia men experi-r * eaced considerable.- bad fortune. Ttfo very fine kicks were made' by Thomson, 1 almosfc resulting^ in 'goals. However, ': Vanganui did win, and e'verj praise is ' due to them for: it, for their antajjonisfs * were a decidedly warin team, though the want of practising together was onlj too manifest, and they were also somewhat weak in* pissing. .The following were thfr respective teams :— Wanjfanui : Turner (back),A»ak'iey (three-quivter back), Copeland and Kitchen (half-backs), P. Smith % and H.^Blythe (guafter backs),. Powell, Hacked Xomax, Craig, Lockctt, Gray, L.. Morse..' %wn.sefid and Stewart (forwards).* Oroua : Thomson (back), A. After aboitt 20 minutes /tke ball was- got behind the Oroua goali but was splendidly run ous by i i ouison, and taken well up towards the Wanjjauui goal again. Shortly after this Alabaster got hurt, hut waf> able to resume plajing after a ahtkt rest. . Thomson made a really good kick, which nearly resulted in a goal. Thomson and Coakley made a capital run each, and then the ball was again taken behind tlie Oroua goal, and Thomson, being closely purnued by Powell, was forced to touch it dovtru. Soon after this a majil-in-goai took place between A. Smith and lioekett, Craig and Hackett. Smith, wag, however, successful in' getting it down, and thus prevented a try for Wanganui. Copeland now made a capital run, an<i after some good pa.ssirig Wanganui touched it dowa behind the Oroua goal,, owing to a mistake made by Powell in taking it out, the try was lost, but Coakley managed to get hold of the bail and 4 kicked a capital goal from llie field . The game was now 7 points to nil. During * the 2nd spell two touch downs vrere obtained by Powell, but each time the goal . was missed by P. Smith. A^aia Thomson narrowly missed obtaining a go&l Jby a capital kick from the t'eid. iSome Tery hot play ensued near the TTan^anui goal, and the home team was forced The game throughout was ex- " ceedinuly fast.
