Stanfield-Dark Entertainment.

♦ As we predicted in our last issue would be the case, the entertainment provided by this talented company was a treat, and the audience would have passed a thoroughly enjoyable evening only for the antics of a few drunkards and larrikins who were in the back part of the hall. The reputation of Feilding of being able to produce at any entertainment a number of the lowest blackguards was well kept up. From the commencement of the performance continued interruptions were made, for the spirit of larrikinism was rampant. If the performance had been below the mark, or in bad form in any way, we could have understood a little rowdyism, but such was not the case for the acting, music, and impersonations were of a high order, and in perfect taste, which the frequent applause showed was appreciated by a large section of the audience. Smoking, vile language, loud talking and the trampling of heavy boots was the running accompaniment of many of the songs. In fact, the section of the audience under consideration behaved like a lot of ignorant clowns. The want of a stalwart door keeper was never so much felt ai on this occasion. When the constable put in an appearance there was a temporary lull, but the noises were again resumed on his departure. The simple fact remains that unless better arrangements are made to keep order in the hall during entertainments or performances, all rospeduble persons will for the future be conspicuous by their absence. The whole thing resolves itself into a matter of money after all. and unless the owners of the hall, or the temporary lessees, are willing to spend a few shillings to keep order, and maintain the comfort of those who are the best paying part of the audience, respectable folk will cease to attend.
