Feilding State School.
The usual monthly meeting of the School Committee was held in ihe school house last evening. Present— Messrs Thompson (Chairman), Foster (Secretary), Watts, Worsfold, Towler, and Bray. The minutes or the previous ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was then read : — Telegram from W. S. Fitzgenild, in reply to one sent by the Chairman iv recommendation of a certificated mule teacher for the gchool. Report of Committee appointed by the Board to enquire into the matter of the Inspector's report upon the teaching of Mrs Browne, assistant mistress of the - Feilding School, which report has already been published in these columns. ■ Copy of the Board's resolution re Mrs Browne's dismissal. Memos from the Secretary of the Board accompanied the two last-men-tioned communications. , The master's report of attendance at the school for the past four weeks was presented, showing a total increase on the average attendance of 20. The matter of the appointment of in - assistant male teacher was then discussed. . Several applications had been received, - but none of the applicants were deemed suitable. After some conversation it was Resolved, on the motion of Mr Foster, seconded by Mr Towler, I hat the Education Board be requested to advertise in 'the Dunedm Times and other papers for a certified male teacher, and in the meantime to temporarily appoint a teacher for the school. Resolved, .on the motion of Mr Bray, seconded by%r Towler, That the Chairman write to the master, requesting him to nominate a cadet teacher for the school, and inform the Chairman as soon ' as -possible of the nomination. The matter of irregularity or nonattendance on the part of many children •in the! district was discussed conversationally, and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Worsfold, seconded by Mr '\ oirler, That the master be requested to Wmsh the Committee with a report, giving the names of those children who are most irregular in attending school, and to be kind enough to furnish the Barnes of those children who have left the gchool daring the past 12 months. Mr Towler, on behalf of the Blue Bibbon organisation, asked for permission to use the school house for a public meeting to be held next week, and the application was granted. Resolved, That two platforms and one table be provided by Mr Watts for the use of the teachers of the infant classes. Mr Bray called attention to. the great partiality shown by the Inspector on the occasion of his last visit, iu spending most of the time in one department of the school and giving such an unwar* rented report as was calculated to do serious damage to the reputation of Mrs Browne as a teacher, and thought the 4* Committee ought to take some action in the way of expressing their opinion on the matter to the Board. Each member of the Committee spoke very strongly *° the same effect, and it was resolved unanimously, That this Committee has no confidence in the Board's Inspector, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Board. that Mr Bray be instructed tosexpend to the extent of 30s in draining theiwater from underneath the School buildings. ,lAn account from Kirton and Curtis ol 12s «d was passed for payment, and the GuuiiuUtee then- adjourned.
