County Elections.

! 4» ■ On Saturday next there will be held the elections for seats at the taMe of tha new , Council of the Oroua County. Already, as our readers are aware, certain ridings have returned their members without opposition, but the seats for Kiwitea and Waituna Ridings are not to be won without a contest. For the Kiwitea Riding there were free candidates, viz., Messrs Mcßeth, Taylor and Williamson. As Mr Taylob considered thai not only was Mr Mcßeth the best man, but the most experienced in the conduct of ? County business, he has withdrawn his candidature, and will work for the return of Mr Mcßeth. As both gentlemen have warm supporters who are keenly interested in the return of the respective candidates, we may expect a close contest i and one or two votes will be all the majority one will gain over the other. . We think the electors will act wisely in again returning Mr Mcßi-TH. The polling will take place at Cheltenham. For the Waituna hiding, which returns two members, there are four candidates, viz., Messrs Douglas, Fey, Robert 1 Lintom and Lash — all good men who i have all the experience and ability neces- • sary for the position which they aspire to fill. The polling takes place at Halcombe and Feilding, and we expect at the former place there will be considerable interest taken in the contest.
