Inspector of Nuisances.

• Htthketo the duties of this officer in the Borough of Feilding, have been of the nature of a sinecure, the general health of the town being remarkably &ood, and ', I consequently no drastic Treasures for the ■ carrying out of tin* sanitary provisions in the Borough Byelaws have been desirable or necessary. We would, however, beg to draw the attention of Councillors, when they meet this evening, to the urgent necessity which now exists tor prompt measures being taken to prevent. the outbreak of any deadly epidemic in the summer months, now fast approaching. Ihe news we have day by day of the older countries of the world being ravaged by cholera and other horrible diseases may be read with the philosophy of perfect safety, but when these plagues come south of the equator, it is time for each and every one to put his be3ts efforts forth to prevent such diseases springing up in our midst, generated by the sum--1 mer sun's festering heat from the masses , of corruption that are, in too many instances, allowed to accumulate in the back yards of some of the houses in the middle of the township. Instruction should be given to the Inspector to make an immediate and inquisitorial visit and examination of every house and premises within the sphere of his duties, uud where necessary, timely notice should be given to the offending parties, and if the warning is not heeded, then the law should be put in force and rigidly carried out. We . have no doubt but that Councillors, for the sake of the healt'i of their families, as well as their reputation for prudence and a desire for well doing, will accept 1 the friendly hint we give them, and act upon it promptly.
