Mr Bryce presented ._a--petition from 150 Natives against the New Zealand Native Land Company's Bill.- After a long discussion the Bill was, read a first time, and referred to the Joint Committee on Bills to report as to whether it was a public or private 8i11..' Mr Montgomery moved' his anti-cen-tralization resolutions. — These* were op- $ posed in a long speech by Major Atkin* son, who concluded ~by saying that the provinces had been abolished because they had done their work, and they could not now be revived because there was no work for them , to do. ,- - Mr Turnbull had supported abolition, but now said it was a mistake. Some, change was absolutely necessary to avert a serious crisis arising., . _ } .- . — Major-Atkinson moved an adjournment., till Wednesday, as the debate had become one of no- confidence.
