In Winter's case the jury : being unable to agree, the Judge, in discharging them said he regretted for the second time this session the jury were unable to come to a conclusion Mr Haggit said he thought this was a case in which the trial might well be held in some other place. The Judge said prisoner could not be tried elsewhere on an indictment. There will be a fresh trial on Monday week. AuoxxAND, This Day. To-day's Northern Wairoa Gazette announces that Thomas F. Priestly, of Priestly-Hamilton case notoriety, proceeds to Auckland to deliver a lecture explaining the mystery of the so-called confessions. He will also speak on prison life and its abuses. The stallioa Leolinus has been pur» chased from Mr G. G. Steed for the New Zealand (Auckland) Stud Company. The price has not been disclosed.
