The Borough Lamps.
« The lighting of the streets of Feilding by the Borough Council is a great blessing and benefit no one can deny. But one tbmg appears very singular, and that is that the lamps were not lighted on Sunday evening last. Whether this omission was intentional on the grounds of Sunday being a day of rest, and that our lamplighter should be enable to pursue hia devotional exercises without interruption, or from motives of economy and a desire to save an undue expenditure of oil, we do not know. This we do know, however, that the absence of the lamps to give light to those persons, who attended the various churches, on their homeward walk, was much felt and comme> ted on. The Feilding public is eminently a church going one, and the many persons who seldom leave their homes except to attend Divine worship on Sunday evenings, certainly deserve that the privileges extended to other residents during the week nights should be shared with them. We hope that at the next meeting of the Council the matter will be brought up, and if the lamps are left unlit by the order cf the Council, that such order will be immediately rescinded.
