A Good Story.
"Now lads," said Jack Chi in, at Coble Dene Dock, when story-telling was once set going, " listen an' aa'll tell ye something about Scotchmen. There was once a famous Scotch king, an' he licked ivvory country that, cam iv his road. At last thor wis m-boey el>e to smash, an' he caalled his heed man. ' Man,' said he, 'is thor a king living that aa hevn't paid V ' Noa, sor,' said the other ' without it's the King o' Hivin,' ' Then g;m an' tell him.' shouted the king, ' that aa mean te take his county frew him !' The h'ad man, as ye may think, was in a great stew ; but when he went to the church prie3t, and thau got back to the King, ' O king,' said he * mighty as thoo is, the King o' Hivin dissent want te fight thoo : he says thoo can have hes kingdom for the axin' for't,' ' Does he reelly V exclaimed the king , ' then gang back, man, an' tell him that for his condescension none o' my countrymen shall ivvor set foot in his kingdom.' An that's the way," concluded Jack, pointing upward, " that no Scotchman lvvor gaos thor !"
