A Hard Case.
TO THE EDITOB OF THB STAB. Sib, — I have heard it said that "It never rains but it pours/' and also "That troubles never come single handed." These old proverbs have been verified in the case of John Henry Roberts, of Makino lioad, whose troubles are unparalleled. His domestic troubles are too well-known to need any comment, but it does not seem to be generally known that Mr J. H. Koberts was a loser by the late fire at Makino of oats in the straw, and a chaffcutter, valne £50, not insured, and this week two of his best horses were killed near the cemetery by the locomotive — worth another £50. Ido think this is a case for philanthropists, and shall be glad to hear that subscriptions are being raised to comfort this poor unfortunate man. — I am, &0., Sympathy. June 16th, 1883. [We will be glad to receive contributions at the Stab Office.— Ed. P. S.]
