Kiwitea Road Board Advertising.

TO THE EDITOB OF THB STAB. Sib, — Happening casually to take up & copy of the Advocate to-day I noticed an advertisement calling the attention of us ratepayers to the fact that the Board intends, on the 3rd of July nezt, to strike a rate of "d in the £ on the rateable value of the property within the Kiwitea Boad Board District, and that the rate book is now open for inspection at the Board's office in Feiiding. Surely there must be some hole and corner work going on somewhere, or how is it that this import' ant notice does not appear in the local journal? Being a subscriber to the Stab, and not of the Advocate, I might have been left in utter ignorance of the said notice, but for the accidental circumstance of a copy of the latter paper coming in my way. I see from your report of the Board's meeting on Monday that the name of the intended journal is left out of the resolution on the subject, from which I infer that the thing was privately arranged, and that therefore your reporter knew nothing of it. This is not as it ought to be with matters of such public interest as rating our property. I maintain that all public business should be open to the Press, and that when rates, which we are to be called upon to pay, are to be struck, the affair should at least be notified in the local paper so as to give it due publicity.— l am, &c. Setxxxb. [We have written to the Chairman of the Board on this matter, and will expeot and explanation that will be satisfactory to Settler.— Ed. F.S.]
