♦ [PBB UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION.! Dunedin, June 18. The inquiry into the recent goods ehed fire was opened to-day. Nelson, This Day. The Lyell murder case has been proceeding all day. There are still ten witnesses to be examined for the prosecution. A fire broke out this morning in the stables of Griffin and Sons, Alton street. The fire had a good hold before the alarm was given, but with a good supply of water it was sbon got under. The stables and granary are insured in the Colonial for £100 Contents are uninsured. The loss is estimated at £200 above the insurance. Attckland, This Day. Fifty men have been engaged here by Danaher, contractor for the WellingtonManawatu line, and leave by the Hawea to-morrow. At the inquest on the body of Percy Smith, watchmaker, who poisoned himself, a verdict oifelo de ac was returned. Wellington, This Day. The Rev. E. Coffey preached at St. Mark's Church last night on the Salvation Army, and begged his congregation to have nothing to do with it. Dunedin, This Day. There are excellent reports from the diggings at the head of the lake. One European party divided £20 per week a man. At a meeting of publicans, brewers, etc., to-night it was decided to petition Parliament for a return to the nominated licensing benches. Seven thousand carcases of frozen mutton are ready for the lonic. She will take ten thousand from here. Wangjjtoi, This Day. McLevie, of the Commercial Hotel, was brought up at the K.M. Court this morning on a charge of selling a bottle of beer on a Sunday to a girl, and pleaded guilty to the offence, but said it was served against his order*. He was fined 20s and costs.
