♦ [PBB TTNITED PEESB ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, This Day. A new Lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids was inaugurated last night by the Grand Lodge Deputy, Walter Bishop. The new Lodge starts with 60 enrolled members. It is the 47 th in New Zealand, and numbered 167 in the Australasian district of the Order. The new Lodge is called the Bishop Lodge. A Freethought Association has been formed in Wanganui. They held the first meeting recently, at which about 40 persons attended ; 18 signed their names as being willing to become members. It is proposed to hold meetings every Sunday evening. Ministers will be asked to give their views, provided free discussion thereon is allowed. Dttnedih, This Day. Mr James McDonald, proprietor of the Milburn limekiln, has announced himself as a candidate for Bruce in opposition to Mr Gillies (brother of Judge Gillies), and Mr Mosley. Haweba, This Day. At the land sale to-day seven sections of bush land, 885 acres, were sold at £2 to £3, and one at £4. Maori leaseholds were taken at 2s to 2s 4d. Chbistchukch, This Day. Four hundred olive plants are to be sent next week from the public gardends here to Auckland for distribution. It is proposed to form a joint stock company to erect Pratt's new theatre, and possibly to rebuild the Clarendon Hotel. A meeting of promoters is to be held on Monday. The New Zealand Grain Agency are advised by cable that a dividend of 6 per cent, for the year has been declared. Thames, This Day. The verdict returned in the case of Charles L. Bapnall, drowned at Tunia yesterday, was accidental death by drowning. Auckland, This Day. Sevaral milk vendors are to be prosecuted for adulteration. The milk contained 9 per cent, of water.
