Entertainment at Taonui.
_ —4r — — The entertainment hc!d in the school house ;i( Taonui last evening, in aid or the school prize fund, was well attended and passed off very successfully. Mr William Bailey presided. As the abilities of most of those who took part in the entertainment are already well-known, it is almost needless to say that their various efforts gave ample satisfaction to the numerous audience. Each " event," if we may borrow that term, was warmly applauded, several were loudly encored, while one or two could by no possibility escape a repetition. The following programme was gone through : — First part, Mr Seaton, organ overture; Mr and Mrs Dowling, Messrs J. and G. Bartholomew, J. W. and A. Eade, glee, ' All among the barley' ; Mr Dowling, song, 'The storm'; Mr E. Sexton, recitation, 'Wreck of the Nancy Bell' ; Mr J Bartholomew, solo, ' Down by the deep snd sea', with chorus by Mrs Dowling and Messrs Dowling and G. Bartholomew; Messrs Seaton and A. Eade, duett, ' Larboard watch' ; Mr J. W. Eade, comic parody, 'Just behind the battle, father' ; Mr G. Bartholomew, solo, ' Yesterday' ; Mr Bush, solo, ' Father dear, come home,' with chorus by the glee parly ; Mr Heading, ' The nonsense song,' and ' Fiji national anthem' ; Mr J. W. Eade, solo, ' Rose of Ellerslie.' Second part : Mr Seaton, organ overture ; glee party, song and chorus, 'Come where my love lies dreaming'; Mr A. Eade, solo, ' Steer my bark to Erin's isle' ; Mr Heading, recitation, ' King John and the abbot'; Mr and Mrs Dowling, duett, ' Junnita' ; glee party, ' See our oars' ; Mr Seaton, organ solo, 'Norma'; Messrs Bartholomew, Dowling, and A. Eade, song and chorus, 'Close the shutters, Willies dead' ; Mr Seaton, reading, 'Mrs Caudle's umbrella lecture'; Mr Bush, solo, 'Shells of the ocean'; Messrs Bartholomew and J. W. Eade, comic trio, ' A little farm well tilled.' Airs Dowling and Mr Seaton were the instrumental accompanists. The singing of the National An them by the above company and the audience brought the performance to a close.
