Feilding Borough Council.
The fortnightly Meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday evening. Present — His Worship the- Mayor, Os Lewers, Worsfold, Thompson, Fowles, Sherwill and Higgin.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
A letter was read from Mr Macarthur enclosing replies from the Hon. W. Johnston to the resolutions passed at the public mpeting held in the Town Hall on the 28th ult , a copy of which communication appeared in our Thursday's
issue. The xeport of the finance committee was received and adopted.
The Mayor officially reported the result of the polling for the £6,000 loan oa Saturday last, viz.. v T6B votes in favor of the proposal, and 10 against it. Resolved, ; on theteotioa bf FV Sherwill, seconded by Cr Lewers, That the letter of the Hon. W. Johnston be received, and that the thanks of the Council bs accorded to Messrs Macarthur and Ear* tholomew for their services as a deputation in waiting on Mr Johnston with the resolutions passed at the aforesaid meeting. The matter of debentures re the loan, and the question of raising the money watt brought forward and discussed. It was considered advisable to raise the loan in three instalments of £2,000 per annum although no resolution was passed to that effect. It was ultimately
Resolved, on the motion of Cr Higgin, seconded by Cr Thompson, That the question of issuing the debentures, and the manner of raising the loan of £6,000 be referred to the finance committee and the Mayor with instructions to report thereon at the next meeting of the Council.
The Mayor suggested the desirableness of a lamp being placed near the railway station, riz., at the back of the station house. The question of the necessity of a road being made from the station oa the west side of the railway to Kimbolton road was also discussed, and it was
Resolved, on the motion of Cr Sherwill, seconded by Cr Worsfold, That the Mayor be requested to communicate with Mr Rotheram with a view to having * lamp placed at the back of the,railway buildings for the convenience of the public, and to suggest the. adyisableness of having a road made -on the western side of the railway line from Kimbolton road to the station. :~
With reference to foot traffic across the Oroua River it was
Resolved, on the motion- of Cr Lewers, seconded by Cr Thompson, That as there is likely to be some delay in having a permanent bridge over the Oroup, that the Minister of Public Works : be respectfully requested to, have a temporary foot bridge put across without delay. •
Resolved, That tbe Council meet again on Thursday next, the 14th iustant, at 8 p.m. ''- ' : The Council then adjourned.
