Important to Friendly Societies

[PEE UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION. J Nelson, This Day

Major Atkinson delivered his address on National Insurance at the I heatre last night. SOO people were present, and accorded him a most favorable reception. His address was in most respects similar to his previous utterances elsewhere, but he said he proposed in his scheme to make it optional whether persons joined friendly societies, or came under tbe scheme. He stated that National Insurance would be kept separate, and tliat he felt certain that the contributions would be sufficent to provide for the benefits stated, and that any excess t hould be for the benefit of people either by increasing sick allowance or annuities, or by return similar to an insurance bonus. A hearty vote of thanks for the able address was carried by acclamation.
