Manchester Highway Board.
The ordinary forfni^hih* meeting of this Board, po^tixuird from Saturday last, was held at its office, Manchester street, yesterday afternoon. Present — Wardens Macarthur (Chairman), Bailey, Bartholomew, Linton, Fergusson and Loudon. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. Warden Bailey asked what rates were now due, and the Clerk produced the book, showing that a xnit £23S 5s 5 1
was now due as arrears
The following correspondence was read : —
From several ratepayers at Ashurst, a petition for the Board to fell and clear a road line adjoining their property.
From Mr Bray, resigning his position as Engineer and Clerk to the Board, on account of having been appointed Engineer to the northern division of the county.
From several settlers, asking permission to fell ro;id lines with their own bush, in order that all may be burned together.
From the Public Works Office, re taking a poll and striking a rate under the Road* and Bridges Construction Act.
Resolved, That the rate of Jd iv the £ be struck as per notice.
Resolved, That the resignation of Mr Bray be accepted with regret.
Resolved, That Mr C. Bray, junior, be appointed Clerk and Collector.
Unsolved, That the valuation roll be altered as per schedule attached.
Resolved, That the request of the several settlers for permission to fell road lines be granted, the payment to be 30s per acre.
Eosolred, That the petition of the settlers at Asliurst for the Board to fell a road line be held over till next sitting.
A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
