Feilding RM. Court.
[Before D. H. Macarthur, and 11. L. Sberwill Esqs., J.P's.] Monday, June 4, 1883. ASSAULT CASE. James Rilcy, residing on the Oroua Downs, way charged, on the information of Frank Wilhnott, manager of the Willmott theatrical company, witli assaulting and beating him at the door of the Feilding Town Hall, on Saturday night last, by striking him with his hand across the face. He was further charged by the same complainant with using abusive language in a public place. The prisoner was also charged by Constable Price with being drunk and disorderly in the public streets on Sunday last when arrested. To this he pleaded guilty and was fined ss.
When asked with reference to the other charges whether he pleaded guilty or not he said he knew nothing at all about it.
Frank Wilimott deposed that about a quarter to 8 on the evening in question defendant came to me at the door of the Town Hall and asked if he could be admitted without a ticket. I told him he could not, whereupon he commenced using very abusive language, and struck me with his hand across my face. He also attempted to upset the table at which I was taking money, but my agent Mr Moss, prevented it from falling.
Amy Wilimott, wife of the plaintiff, corroborated his evidence.
Prisoner was fined 40s and costs 7s, or in default 14 days' imprisonment. The amount not being forthcoming he was taken to the lock-up. The Court then adjourned.
