Kiwitea Siding Accounts.
The following is the statement of accounts of the Kiwitea Riding of the Manawatu County, from September, 1881, to February, 1883, read by Mr Mcßeth at Mr Stevens' Kiwitea meeting, as referred to in. our report of the same : — The debit balance on September 30th, was £238 19s Bd. During, the ensuing sixteen months the amount expended in road construction was £376 3s 3d. The working expences including rate collecting, traveling expences, salaries, valuation lists, printing and advertising, share of cost of new council chambers, hospital and charitable aid, &c, were £133 14b 3d. The othea items of expenditure included maintenance, licensing and dog tax expenses,- bridge ferry t and interest on over-draft, making a grand total of £867 IQ4. The receipts '-for the same period were— Rates £324 7« 7d, subsidy £124 10s 3d, licenses £30 Ss, dog tax £5 4d, total £484 6s lOd, leaving a debit balance of £375 Is. Mr Mcßeth said he had read the accounts that the ratepayers might see what had been done since he took office, and he thought there could scarcely have been done more under the unfavorable circumstances of commencing with such a heavy debt. He strongly advocated separation, and the formation of a new bounty in preferanee to a Road Board, and gave as a special reason the greater expense that would be involved iu working the latter.
